Benjamin Hazel
Benjamin Hazel is a BC-based documentary filmmaker and the owner of Salmonberry Studios. Ben’s work focuses on the politics of lands and resources in British Columbia. Benjamin’s work is journalistic, cinematic, and always bold.
About
I first picked up a camera and made my first documentary when I was 18. Since then, I’ve continued to take an unconventional path through the industry, starting my own company and making my own independent films.
I’ve built a business known for cinematic, creative storytelling that works with the people doing the most important work across BC’s land base and waters. Organizations work with me not just because the films look nice, but because I understand the issues that they live within and can create media that moves the needle. I’ve made Vancouver Island my home, but I work across British Columbia on stories that shape the region, forestry, fisheries, First Nations rights, and more.
In addition, I’ve made creative documentary journalism a big part of what I do. I pick up the stories that institutional media either won’t touch or can’t do right, and bring them into the public conversation to help change the world for the better.
